12:11 pm: Introduction
It is a strange experience...to belong to a community called Sindhi Vaishnav.
A....one is linked to a land of his fore fathers which he has never seen and will never be allowed to visit.
B...one has a mother tongue which is no longer a commercial language so no one wants to use it..
C....and belong to a religion which every one wants you to leave..only because society feels it inconvenient..because its principles do not have mas appeal today

and yet the heart and mind (maybe the soul also) desire to hold on..to still belong..and the search for ones Identity continues..
Is this page about History? or Social Migration? or nations disintegrating? or religon in todays multi cultural society?? or is it about an Individuals journey to find and belong to his "ROOTS"...

fan fiction
I am such a dork. I can't believe I'm doing this. But for some reason I really felt the urge to write:

Born Confused fanfiction.

Before I knew fanfiction existed, I have pretty much always done it- but just in my head. I never wrote it, because I didn't know that there were people out there who would want to read it, who would even get what I was doing, and who did the same thing.

But yeah- this is an unwritten part of the story that might complete things. It doesn't challenge what's going on in the book at all. It's just one of the backstories.

If you haven't read Born Confused, don't even attempt to read this little fic. (If you haven't read Born Confused, READ THE BOOK.)

This community seems to be just a bunch of random Indian talk(no-offense). But have you talked about the book at all? I haven't seen much of the community so I am probably wrong, in that case excuse me. Has anyone listened to some of Tanuja's music? It is awsome. It is just like Karsh's music(almost), minus the turntables. Well, I really liked the book. I have read it twice already. And I love India. It is my dream to go there one day!

New Community-- Prayer For India!

Greetings one and all,

This community is being established for those who desire to pray for India, have a heart for India, who are Indian (living anywhere), are missionaries in India, or just want to check out what God is doing in that large region. The purpose of this community will be cultural exchange between regions of India (anything from Divali to Desi food recipes to religious/cultural study to Bollywood), understanding, keeping up with news and needs of India, and correspondences between all affiliated with India in some way.

I look forwards to seeing what God will accomplish as we all gather together with one purpose.

namaste
namaste!

Im not indian, but i joined this community anyway because I am very intrested by the culture and the people. I tend to think of my self as very confused also, I was born into an african american familly that is very tight nit and strongly traditional. Their expectations of me are sometimes frightning and sometimes I feel that I cant be just a 19 year old girl. They expect me to be a wife and mother in training. I was reading a post on this communitys page that was called "you know your indian when..." and i had to laugh because alot (and when i say alot i really mean alot) of those are the same as my familly. in a way im seeking to run away from my own culture and people only to find a group of people who are running away from theirs too.

its hard to grow up in a familly where you feel like an outsider. and even though im not indian by reading some of your posts ive gathered that you all feel the same way.

i hope to learn more about the indian culture and way of life more from joining this community from people who see it objectivly and not just as an insider looking at me as an outsider.

thanks

im in an english elective class: gay & lesbian liberation through the generations. At the end of the term we are suppose to write a paper on something. So i decided to do mine on Homosexuality in India. I am interested in learning from you, what is your thoughts/ opinions on homosexuality in india. Is being a lesbian more accepted then being a gay male?

Blurb in June/July 2005 Issue of JANE magazine on South Asian porn girls
Hey, kids.

So I was flipping through this month's issue of JANE, and stopped on page 48. At the bottom of the page was a wee paragraph. It caught my attention, and I thought I'd post it up here to see what you all think.

(I'll scan in the actual image tomorrow; you get a transcription for now)
*x-posted*

INVISIBLE NO MORE

I'm proud to announce that despite the Indian community's super-traditional ways, porn company Vivid just signed its first subcontinental star, Sunny Leone. "Indian girls come up to me more than guys and are happy that I'm making my own decisions and not listening to the rules and regulations that our parents put on us," says 24-year-old Sunny, who is sticking to girl-only action for now. And the Internet is booming with porn sites such as www.indianchix.com and www.indiandreamgirl.com - all started within the past five years (and, yes, they do play around with al the curry-hot, Kama Sutra, etc. stereotypes). "It's one of the hottest niches in the adult biz," says Chams, the owner of www.hardcoreindiangirls.com. "We get between 50 to 100 new members a day from North America." And depending what side of the feminism fence you're on, the "good" news doesn't stop there, as leading ladies Jasmine, Gaya, and the U.K.'s Anjali (www.adoreanjali.com) are coming up in the game. Jasmine even received an Adult Video News award this year. I knew my girls had it in them. -Tina {Chadha, a writer/Jane staffer}

Oh yeah... intro
:waves:
Hello everyone. My name's Praseeda [sanskrit for good natured or something like that] but you can call me Presi. Here's my intro:
I'm a CD born in Saudi Arabia (although my birth certificate says India). My mom's Hindu and my dad's Muslim. [Yeah I know. Confusing marriage.] Neither are super strict on religion so it all works out. I've moved around quite a bit but I'm currently located in MD and go to a Catholic private school with my awesome buddy tamasha420. I've always considered myself too American for the Indians and too Indian for the Americans. I can understand every word of Telegu that comes out of my mother's mouth [Yes, she's from Andrapradesh] but I can't speak it. Customs are practically unknown to me as well. Until recently, I've felt sorta alone in all this but after a while I figured there were a few others like me. So that's why I'm here.
Any questions?

[shnellee]

aloha. salaam. namaste. satsri akal. am i forgetting anything? oh yah. and hello!

and i thought i was the only confused one. i just joined yesterday. so hi. the names shnellee (for you anyway) and i'm currently in pretty Canada (though i am moving to a colder part of it in a couple months). Sometimes i do have an "identity crisis," because i am desi but i'm also muslim which leads to people thinking i'm pakistani 99% of the time becuase i'm brown and wear hijab. on top of that, i speak urdu and people don't associate it with india. I was born and grew up in Africa and at 13 i moved to Canada. Which leaves me to be a brown muslim born-in-africa and currently canadian citizen person thing! it's not all that bad but over all i don't belong to one solid anywhere. if you know what i mean.

...which leaves me with a name as vague and white as shnellee! (but hey, i like it because i invented it)

looking forward to getting to know all of you!
